M-09 Highway: preparing to open traffic on new bridges!

A year has passed since ‘Avtomagistral-Pivden’ began a major overhaul of the M-09 highway on the section between Lviv and the checkpoint ‘Rava-Ruska — Hrebenne.’
During this time, the asphalt concrete pavement has been laid on 20 of 34 km!
The final stage also includes an equally important direction — bridge construction.
In total, the major repair of M-09 involves the reconstruction of 6 bridges. Five of them are practically ready — the installation of the first layer of asphalt concrete pavement is ongoing.
Very soon we are preparing to open traffic, after which we will begin dismantling the detours.
Three more bridges have been replaced with two-span concrete pipes. The fourth pipe is still in progress.
Other types of work are also progressing actively: embankment arrangement and road widening, preparation of the road base, and laying of two layers of asphalt concrete pavement.
Installation of storm drainage continues; work has started in the last settlement — Rava-Ruska.
Curb installation has started in the settlements.
Let us recall, the M-09 highway is the main route from Kyiv to Warsaw, which is part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). The length of the repair section (from Vola-Vysotska village to the checkpoint) is 33.4 km. Even before the war, the EBRD conducted a road safety audit, an economic feasibility analysis, as well as an environmental and social assessment. In 2020, an agreement was signed between Ukraine and the bank to finance a number of projects, among which was the major repair of M-09. During the war, the project became even more relevant: the load on the road increased, and the condition of the pavement deteriorated. What the project entails: ✅ Outside populated areas, the road is being widened — an additional traffic lane is added; ✅ On both sides near stops, intersections, and junctions, transition-acceleration lanes are being arranged; ✅ The road base is completely replaced, and a new covering of three layers of asphalt concrete is being installed; ✅ Six bridges are being rebuilt (most of them are in disrepair), four bridges are being replaced with concrete pipes, and a roundabout interchange is being constructed.
