Rehabilitation of the R-34 Road in Moldova: Building Temporary Bypasses for Bridges!

The rehabilitation of a 42-kilometre section of the road between Cahul and Cantemir includes, among other works, the reconstruction of six bridges.

4 new bridges will be built to replace the existing structures.

1 new bridge will be constructed next to the existing crossing, as the rehabilitation project provides for straightening the road, which currently has a 90-degree bend.

1 bridge will be rehabilitated through structural strengthening and widening of the carriageway.

Key differences of the new bridges:

The number of spans will increase from two to three. The road embankment will be raised by 30 cm after rehabilitation, which will also increase the length of the bridge crossings.

Sidewalks will be provided, increasing the overall bridge width to 12 metres: 8 metres for the carriageway and 2 metres on each side for sidewalks.

The load-bearing capacity of the bridge structures will be increased several times to meet modern design standards.

We are currently constructing temporary bypasses at two bridge crossings. At the location where the new bridge is being built next to the existing one, reinforced-concrete pile driving has been completed, and we are now constructing the pile caps.
